Housing in Gotland and financing
Housing and financing are the two key elements to a wonderful exchange experience that you can enjoy at Uppsala University!
In Visby and the surrounding area there are a number of channels for finding the type of accommodation you are looking for, including student flats and numerous cosy private accommodations that can be leased during the academic year.
Please visit the website of the Student Union Rindi's accomodation agency, Gotlands studentbostad. Under "Private landlords" you will find advertisements for vacant apartments and under "Housing companies" you will find Gotlandshem and Gotlandsresor, the leading providers of student housing as well as a number of smaller commercial landlords.
If, despite this, you still have problems finding accommodation, we can offer you an accommodation guarantee. The accommodation guarantee is extended to students who are admitted to full-time studies totalling at least 30 credits per term. Please note that it does not apply during the summer semester.
The guarantee does not mean that you get your own accommodation but that, at the start of the term, we help you find a temporary bed through our agency. The student pays for the temporary accommodation.
The accommodation guarantee assures you a minimum of a hostel standard equivalent (you may need to share a room). The period during which this accommodation is available depends in the type of accommodation and landlord. They are all located within biking distance or are reachable by public transport.
If you are unable to find any suitable accommodation 1–2 weeks before the start of term, please contact Rindi’s accommodation service on telephone +46 498 10 84 90 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Housing to fee-paying Master's and Bachelor's students
Uppsala University will guarantee an offer of housing to all fee-paying Master's students and several other groups of students attending the university through collaboration agreements prioritised by Uppsala University management. This may include formal exchange students. Students will be offered housing for a period of two semesters, that is, one academic year provided they have submitted their housing application before 1st June. These students will be provided with a fully-furnished dormitory room located in one of the student housing areas in town. Room sizes can vary between 19-48m2 and some have a private kitchen and bathroom while others are shared. Rent will cost between SEK 2 700 and 4 500 per month.
Please note, for guaranteed accommodation, students must apply on time.
Application and Tuition Fees
Students who are citizens of a country outside of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay application and tuition fees to study at Master’s level in Sweden. There are no application and tuition fees for students who are citizens of a country within the EU, EEA or Switzerland.
