A seminar series that connects the urban needs, innovative spirit, technological prowess and entrepreneurial energy of India with the ideas of sustainability and resilience, and the business models of Sweden and the Nordic world.

The 2021 India at Almedalen Week series of seminars is organised within the umbrella of Future Urbanisms, a multidisciplinary research programme of Uppsala University at Campus Gotland, focuses on how collaboration between Swedish and Indian innovation ecosystems can foster approaches, frameworks and solutions for sustainability that is available for everyone.

Seminar 1: Urbanisation, Technology & Sustainability - Aiming Towards a Zero City
Duration: 90 minutes

Key question: The opening seminar focusses on how collaboration between Swedish and Indian innovation ecosystems can foster new approaches, frameworks and solutions for sustainability that is available for everyone. 

Key question: In a changing post-Covid world, how can we co-think sustainability, urbanisation and technology? 

Seminar 2: New Energy Systems for the People - Lessons, Insights and Models from India & Sweden

Key question: Seminar 2 draws lessons, insights and models on new energy systems from India and Sweden and explores the question, How can we increase the per person access to clean and affordable energy while reducing the carbon footprint? What are the learnings from Sweden and India on leveraging innovative technologies to create sustainable energy systems that are affordable for people and communities?

Seminar 3: SDGs & Industry 4.0: Creating a New Purpose Economy

Key question: Seminar 3 will explore the question,What are the learnings from Sweden, The Nordics and India in creating an ecosystem that builds in and hard-codes equity from a perspective of a digital democracy, socioeconomic growth and sustainable development?

SEMINAR 4: Towards a Zero City - What the world can learn from IndianSunyaand Swedish Lagom
Duration: 75 minutes

Key question: Using the starting point of Sweden and India being at the helm of the Leadership Group for Industry Transition, the discussion at the culminating seminar of 'Engaging India at Almedalen: Future Urbanisms' will explore the concepts of circularity, sustainability and enabling industry transition through a collaborative approach.The closing seminar looks to merge the concepts of the Indian ‘Sunya’ (zero or circularity) with the Swedish ‘Lagom’(balance) and explores the question, What can we learn from ‘Sunya’ and ‘Lagom’and how can India & Sweden can lead the way for a more sustainable world?

The closing seminar will also showcase and formally introduce Zerocity, which is a collaborative platform that has emerged from Future Urbanisms to create sustainable solutions for cities and its communities.
